While it is expected that each of the campaigns will
coordinate their own activities each evening, Town
Committee members are expected show up for their own
state reps night, i.e.: town comm. members who live
in 109th should come down and help Joe.
No one is expected to make it down to headquarters
every single week. Things come up and everyone has
families, jobs, lives etc. Conversely, only showing
up once between Labor Day and Election Day is
not
acceptable. The main function of the town committee
is to nominate and help elect Democrats. We've
nominated great candidates, now we need to help
elect them. While each campaign will have its own
volunteers, they all rely upon the town committee to
form a core of people who can be counted on to
help.
In addition, all of our candidates will be walking
during the week and on weekends. (Most all of them
have started already) They will be calling everyone
for help. Get out there and help them!
Congressman Murphy will have staff in our
headquarters throughout the fall campaign season.
Chris' staff was tremendously helpful in 2006 and we
expect to work closely with them this year as well.
Two things to remember:
One, Chris will need
any help you can give to his campaign.
Two, while Chris' staff
has always been helpful and will be again, they work
for Chris - not us so if you need help please ask
nicely.
Finally, I believe all of our candidates are on
board with the following: everyone is expected to
help everyone. This means that when we call we try
to include as much of the entire ticket as we can -
if a voters asks a question about another candidate
please pass it on to that campaign - if someone
wants a lawn sign for your candidate, inquire
whether they can take one from Duane or Chris
etc.
Most importantly: It means that we support
ALL
of our candidates (its a free country and you may
vote for who you wish) when you are at headquarters
you
MUST
support all of our candidates - from Obama through
the ticket to Registrar of Voters -
NO EXCEPTIONS.
This goes for volunteers as well. If there are any
issues with this please let me know.
Lastly: please clean up after yourselves every
night. Throw your garbage away, recycle cans and
bottles, clean up the tables and push the chairs
in. Leave it ready for the next nights campaign.
